Rollin'

Peyton rolls over. All the time.

I wake up some nights to the sounds of a shrieking baby. When I run into Peyton's room, I usually find him squirming around with his eyes closed, having either rolled over or caught an arm and leg or all of the aforementioned.

When this happens at night, usually all I have to do is flip him back over, free him from the ensnaring bars of the crib, and put him back in the middle. He quietly goes back to sleep.

But sometimes I think he purposefully rolls over after his naps.

He'll start to fuss and I'll give him a minute to see if he's actually awake. When I go in to check on him, he's just looking around, having rolled over so he could better enjoy the view of his room and play with his toes.

I finally caught him in action:

Only problem is ... he can't roll back. Hence, the reason I have to go flip him back over at night.

For the love of smiles and sanity.

We got a new toy in the mail yesterday, and it is AWESOME!

It's a camera and oh, how I love it. We got a pretty good deal for it on Amazon.com (my favorite way to shop these days). I love our Prime membership, because I only had to wait two days to get this electronic baby and our sweet SD card.

I wasted no time in taking pictures of Peyton. As soon as he woke up and finished eating, Dan and I played with our new toy. You can already tell this camera is amazing by this:

Now, is that a smile, or is that a smile?!

And this:

Pretty sure that's a smile too.

And this:

Yep, smile.

So, for any of you who have only seen Peyton in a public setting and didn't believe he was capable of smiling: here is your proof. He smiles. A lot. And this camera (pictured below) is actually quick enough to catch him! It's a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH20.

For the love of smiles.

There's also a video here of Peyton and I talking to each other.

Peyton and I love having conversations together ... and despite the fact that I can't understand a thing he's saying (and he can't understand me), it somehow makes me feel more sane.

There's something about getting a response to your chatter that makes you feel better about the fact that you're talking to yourself all day long. It's even better when that response isn't your own.

I hope some of you can relate and don't think I'm a psycho who talks to myself all day long. I'd lose my mind and officially be psycho if I didn't (if that makes any sense)!

What a poop-tastrophe!

Two in a row, that is.

The wide-eyed culprit.
Let's start with yesterday. Dan, Peyton and I drove up to Ogden to meet up with a couple of Dan's mission buddies: Visa and Staheli. Visa is in town from Finland for his brother's wedding and is staying with Staheli and his wife. Since Visa is from Finland, Dan hasn't seen him since the mission, so we wanted to meet up with him. Other than Peyton crying for the last two hours we were there (but not the car rides, thank goodness!), the trip went super well.

Left-to-right: Staheli, Visa, Daniel

Then came the last 30 minutes of the car ride home. Peyton pooped an audible poop. Dan and I weighed the traffic and the sound of Peyton's defecation and decided we could make it home. Bad choice. Peyton waved his arms in the air and I caught a glimpse of yellow under his armpit. Then he started fussing (who wouldn't with a gallon of poo up his or her back?). It was the worst blowout to-date. All the way up his back, all the way down his legs. I kindly asked Peyton to abandon his every-other-day routine and go with 2-3 per day in smaller proportions.

He did not listen.

Today, Daniel and I took Peyton to The Home Depot to buy some moving boxes -- side note, we are moving in three weeks, crazy!! -- so I could start packing up some of our less-used items around the apartment. During the car ride there, I hear Peyton's unmistakable pooping sounds, followed by the unmistakable yellow sight.

Needless to say, it was just as bad as yesterday's ... except for we were stranded at The Home Depot without a change of clothes. Dan and I got poop all over our hands. Peyton had it in his hair, on his arms, hands, legs, toes, face ... seriously, it was a poop-tastrophe.

There's another issue that arose:

Pictured above is Peyton's new favorite thing to do -- suck his hands. But you see, Peyton had poop on his hands. So did daddy and mommy. As we tried to juggle his poopy clothes, clean him up and keep poop off the car interior, Peyton's poopy hands moved toward his [less poopy] face. It was a narrow escape. I freaked out. I don't think he ingested any.

Though I was freaking out the whole time, I thought it was quite funny. And honestly, I'm grateful he poops. It'd be worse if he didn't.

Dream a little dream...

The other night I had a ridiculous dream. I dreamed that I was enrolled in a class and I hadn't gone a single time because I meant to drop it at the beginning of the semester, but never did. It's ridiculous because I've been done with school for nearly an entire semester and I'm definitely not taking ANY classes right now ... because I'm done. Get it?

Well, I didn't. Because I woke up panicked and disoriented, trying to remember which classes I was enrolled in and about ready to go out to the computer and check my schedule. Silly me.

The funny thing is, when I was in classes I had this dream at the end of EVERY semester, without fail.

I told my sister-in-law about this ridiculous happening and she said that my father-in-law still has those dreams. And he's in his 50's. I guess I better not plan on those going away any time soon, huh?

And now, to make this post worth your time, here are some new Peyton pictures.

More than I could have ever hoped for ...

Sleep, that is.

I never thought I would be able to get this much sleep with a 10-week-old baby. Oh, am I in heaven!

Thursday, Friday and Saturday night he slept 10-12 hours straight. The first night I woke up at his usual feeding time and was a little freaked out, but the next night I was able to quickly adjust.

I was really surprised he slept so well Friday night. We kept him up waaaaaaay past his bedtime at a mission reunion ... but he slept from 11 p.m. to 10:30 a.m. What's even better is he got right back on schedule last night and slept from 7:30 p.m. to 7:15 a.m.

I seriously did not expect this at all. And when he wakes up, he's not screaming or crying ... he just babbles in his crib. Smiles when we come in. Is happy for his diaper change. Eats like there's no tomorrow.

He's also been scooting and rolling over more and more. This morning I came in and he had rolled over again.

And he LOVES sucking on his fingers. Especially while he's sleeping. But it's not just a thumb ... it's his entire hand. Silly boy.

I took Peyton to meet some friends at my old job in the Digital Imaging Lab in BYU's Special Collections library. I also took Peyton to meet my friends at United Way of Utah County -- where I did my internship. I really need to be better at taking pictures ... we did a lot of fun things this week and I didn't take any!

We're actually in the market for a new camera. Our current camera is quite old. It also doesn't take a memory card anymore, so we can only get about 15 pictures on its internal memory. Plus, maybe Peyton will smile more if he doesn't recognize the photo-taking device. Probably not. But it's worth a shot.

I've thoroughly enjoyed General Conference so far. I'm excited for today's messages and I'm also excited to go to Uncle Alan and Aunt Shelly's for dinner tonight in SLC. Yum!
